This page was formally archived on Friday, 9 June 2017 to commemorate the official opening of the new school building at Gaelscoil Philib Barún. The content herein is reflective of the journey that lead to that day and is being retained here for historical purposes.

Introduction

Is toradh ar fhealsúnacht nó ar chlár oideachais foirgneamh scoile. Cad a léiríonn mionbhoscaí réamhdhéanta, aonfhoirmeach suite ar shuíomh dea-radharcach ag féachaint anuas ar thrá na Trá Móire, fúinn agus faoin ár bhfealsúnacht oideachais?

A school building is a result of an educational philosophy or programme. What do our prefabricated, uniform and undersized boxes placed on a scenic site overlooking the wonderful Tramore beach say about our educational philosophy?

Ba iomaí caithréimeanna agus teipeanna a bhí ag coimhlint 27 bliain Ghaelscoil Philib Barún ar son cóiríochta córa. Tá sé de rún againn plé leis an gceist seo go críochnaitheach cuimsitheach le pleananna a dhearadh do struchtúr buan a bheadh costéifeachtúil, nuálach agus tarraingteach ar shuíomh na Roinne ag Cruabhaile Uachtarach sa Trá Mhór. Foirgneamh a bheadh an baile mortásach faoi agus sásta a thaispeáint do thurasóirí agus iad ag triail ar an ionad saoire cois farraige. Foirgneamh a léireoidh fealsúnacht le meas do oideachas dá haos óg agus a chaitheann an ghaelscolaíocht mar shuaitheantas éagsúlachta a ghineann athbheochaint na Gaeilge sa cheantar.

Gaelscoil Philib Barún’s 27 year struggle for adequate accommodation has had its fair share of setbacks and minor triumphs. Our ambition is to deal with the issue finally and comprehensively by drawing up plans for a cost effective, innovative and attractive permanent structure on our site at Crobally Upper, Tramore. A building that the town will be proud to show its visitors as they approach the seaside resort. A building that will reflect a philosophy that values the education of its young and sees its Gaelscoil as a badge of diversity breathing life into the Irish language.

Le toil pholaiticiúil is féidir linn deireadh a chur le cur amú acmhainní ganna ar áiseanna ar cíos. Tá cláracha tógála bunscoileanna gannmhaoinithe le blianta. Tá gaelscoileanna ag deireadh an scuaine i gcónai nuair a tugtar cead do scoileanna nua tosnú ag tógáil. Tá 60% de Ghaelscoileanna i gcóiríocht shealadach. Teastaíonn uainn dul lastuas den treoch agus an lámh in uachtar a bhreith ó na cliarlathaigh ag útamáil. Teastaíonn uainn scoil a thógáil!!

With political will we can stop the waste of scarce resources on inadequate rented facilities. Primary school building programmes have been historically underfunded. All-Irish primary schools have been at the bottom of the heap when it comes to giving new schools the green light for building. 60% of Gaelscoileanna are in temporary accommodation. We want to buck the trend, break the mould and take control away from the bungling bureaucrats. We want to build a school!!
